Organic beauty on a budget: Marilou Bio

If you are looking for a low cost organic skincare range, this post may be of your interest.

We all know that organic beauty comes to a certain price... helas. You may need a higher budget if you want to purchase natural products compared to classical products (but it is worth it at the end :-)), this is due to various reasons: use of high quality ingredients, handmade batches, small companies, certification process and cost, recyclable packaging etc...

I would like to introduce Marilou bio, a french skincare company that promises to deliver simple, natural, and effective certified (Ecocert) beauty products ... and mainly accessible for everybody.

The range comprises a complete face and body care collection: you can choose between facial mask, exfoliant, soothing anti-wrinkle cream, delicately scented bodywash, everyday shampoo etc...If you are a lover of lip balms, you may be happy: the little lip treats are fraganced with sweet flavors such as chocolat or strawberry...looking very yummy!

The packaging remains simple yet funky. Each product has its full ingredient composition listed (which I like!).

Marilou Bio range retails in specialised natural shops. Products can also be purchased online. Check this previous post here for more information. (The company choose not to work with big chains or supermarkets in France).

For more details, you can visit their website here (only in french unfortunately so ask me if you have any questions):

Have you ever tried these beauty products? what do you think?

MyChelle Dermaceuticals Ultra Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum

In my quest for a really super radiant and hydrated skin, serums are always my first choice. Really concentrated and effective, a serum, if used regularly, can bring all the right nutrients to your skin in just 1 or 2 pumps!

Fall and winter are really great seasons to start incorporating a serum in your skincare routine: as the weather gets colder, your skin is in need of a good moisturising boost.
However, serums may be used anytime during the year and appear very beneficial if skin is really looking dull and tired.

Back in May 2012, I attended the Natural and Organic Products show in London. When popping by at the american company Mychelle Dermaceuticals exhibition stand, I was kindly offered a product of my choice...and I choose the product below :-).

Sorry, my daughter played with my little bottle ;-)

Description: Ultra Hyaluronic Hydrating serum
Certified: No
For: Dry skin
Presentation: flacon
Texture: Creamy gel
Price: $42 (or around £26)

My opinion

First of all, I love the packaging of the serum (and the brand in general). It feels fresh, harmonious, clean, and cute!

Back in June (and with the summer approaching), I decided to switch my daily moisturiser to this serum and I used it every morning.

The texture is really light yet still ensuring a good protection for mild weather. I did not need an extra layer of cream. I love the fact that the skin becomes extra smooth without leaving any greasy feeling on it. It is also perfectly suitable to use underneath a cream...without having "a big layer" feeling on the skin.
After each single use, I was really impressed how my skin was left plumped, smooth, and highly moisturised. It was probably due the presence of moisture-lock ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin or squalane.
The scent of the serum is light and discret,  I think I can identify the delicate rose aroma, which I really like.
I really enjoyed using this product as an overall and I cannot really fault it (amazingly!). I would really recommend it if your skin is lacking of energy, glow, and looks a bit tired. I have a combination skin and the serum did not cause any irritation or breakouts despite being designed for dry skin. I cannot wait to buy another flacon!

.....your skin will thank you!

My overall rating: 9.5/10

Product composition: water, Glycerin*, Sodium hyaluronate (Sugar), Sodium NaPCA (Amino Acid), Squalane (Olive), Honey, Phospholipids (Plant Fatty Acid), Rosa canina (Rosehip) seed extract*, Aloea barnadensis leaf juice powder*, Pelargonium gravelolens (Geranium) flower oil, Arginine (Amino Acid), NutraFlora), Allantoin (Comfrey Root), Hammamelis virginiana (Witch hazel) water, Alcohol denatured (grain), Citric acid, Potassium sorbate, Phenethyl Alcohol (rose), Caprylyl glycol (coconut), Trisodium Ethylenediamine dissucinate * certified organic

The serum is a blend of highly moisturising compounds, amino acids, and gentle preservatives.

Glycerin is a top hydrating ingredient. It is really effective in locking moisture and preventing dryness.

Hyaluronic acid does not penetrate in the epidermis but creates a layer at the skin surface and prevent water loss.

Sodium NaPCA is a natural humectant that helps fixing water from the environnement to the skin.

Squalane is extracted from olive. This Lipid has an important role in skin protection.

Have your tried this serum or this brand? if not, what is your favorite serum?
