Why I do not buy beauty products containing mineral oil
If you look closer at the composition of mainstream/classical beauty products (body lotion, oil, face cream etc..), you will very often notice that "mineral oil" or "paraffinum liquidum" or " petrolatum" is at the top position of the list, which means that it is the "base" or main ingredient of the product. Wondering why?
Mineral oil is: - highly refined
- super cheap for the manufacturers
- really easy to use
- stable over time
But here is the "drama". Have you thought if mineral oil is good for your skin and is a "real cosmetic" ingredients? not really? Let me clarify it for you.
Paraffin is: - made of hydrocarbures
- useless at providing any benefits for the skin
- lacking of vitamins and nutrients
- occlusive for the skin
- not well tolerated if you have an allergy-prone type skin
- totally "anti-beauty oil"
It is very easy to check the "quality" of a beauty product by looking at whether or not the product contains mineral oil or paraffin.
To conclude: I personally always opt for face cream or body lotion that contain organic virgin plant oils such as olive, jojoba, or sweet almond oils (or others) as their main carrier.
The gentle extraction method preserves the quality and the content of each oil, ensuring that vitamins and fatty acids are conserved.
A real plus your skin: botanical nutrients + protection!
